the Australian egg industry is responsible for the lives of over 25 million hens, who supply over 434 million dozen eggs every year.
Every one of these millions of hens is a sentient being, who experiences physical sensations and emotional responses such as pain, fear, anxiety, pleasure and enjoyment. Studies have also shown that chickens are highly social animals with complex cognitive abilities.
Despite this, egg-laying hens are afforded little protection under the law, suffering cruelties such as the permanent confinement of battery cages, debeaking, extreme deprivation, and early slaughter. But you can help them.
