Wildfires in the west, hurricanes on the gulf coast, tornadoes along the plains – whenever natural disasters strike all over the country, they are bound to have devastating effects. While people can often evacuate their families and pets safely, factory-farmed animals are almost always left behind.
Certain regions of the U.S. are more prone to disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and blizzards. And with the high concentration of thousands of animals in factory farms when disasters strike, these animals are unable to escape or endure exposure to the elements. Millions of animals are forgotten, killed or injured each year as a result of natural disasters.
I know you care about animals, that is why I am asking you to please sign our petition to urge state legislators to set policies that increase protections for farmed animals in high-risk disaster areas.
Animals confined to cages, like mother pigs, hens, or calves, are unable to escape. Furthermore, most animals in factory farms have compromised immune systems making them more susceptible to the diseases that may be exacerbated by a disaster.
Something needs to change now! We need to protect these vulnerable animals before disasters strike. Will you take this simple step to let state governments know this is not okay? Your signature will give a voice to those whose voices have been ignored. Please take action now!
