Pitch to sign off on shark nets
ENVIRONMENTALISTS say the time has come to ditch shark nets during whale migration periods or risk the future of our largest marine mammals.
A petition of 2246 signatures has been submitted to the Gold Coast City Council, demanding the controversial 11 nets be removed each year between August and October at the peak of the southern migration when hundreds of humpback whales make the journey along Australia’s east coast.
If approved, it would bring the region into line with NSW …
