For animal lovers, it’s heartbreaking to know that so many animals experience lives of prolonged torture and utter despair. But, that’s exactly what’s happening on bear bile farms in China and Vietnam.
More than 10,000 bears are incarcerated in these farms, where steel catheters are painfully inserted into the bears’ gallbladders to repeatedly ‘milk’ them for their bile. The bile is used in traditional Asian medicine, luxury cosmetic items, and toiletries (like shampoo and hemorrhoid cream).
