Chester Zoo makes an elephant disappear

Dear Martina,

Last week I went to Chester Zoo. That’s something that you might not expect me to announce but, as part of our ongoing work to protect animals in captivity, zoos visits to document current conditions and highlight specific concerns are vital.

And, despite our overall opposition to zoos, I can hand-on-heart say that every time either one of my colleagues or I go to a zoo, circus or other captive animal business, we come away with evidence of animal suffering. Chester was no exception …
