In hot soup: WWF Malaysia pushes to end shark fin consumption

In its latest campaign, WWF Malaysia pushes for more awareness towards ending the consumption of shark fin, writes Kerry-Ann Augustin.

WE’RE big on breaking records in Malaysia, aren’t we? Second longest bridge in Southeast Asia, tallest twin towers in the world, largest book pyramid and countless other records that we can, for the most part, be proud of.

There are, however, records which belong to our wall of shame: Malaysia is the ninth largest producer of shark products and the world’s third largest importer of shark products in terms of volume.

These figures are courtesy of the State of the Global Market for Shark Products report, released by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation just last year. …
